The Romantic Forest |
Martin Butler OAM - Conductor
Daniel Chieng - Piano Brahms – Serenade No. 1 in D Major (Allegro molto) Liszt – Piano Concerto No. 2 in A Major Brahms – Symphony No. 2 in D Major Step into the heart of The Romantic Forest, surrounded by echoes of nature's mystery, serenity and richness. Inspired by Caspar David Friedrich’s evocative painting Evening Landscape with Two Men, this concert will immerse you in the spirit of German Romanticism, for which the forest was a source of artistic reflection and a symbol of untamed beauty and adventure. The concert opens with the vibrant and playful first movement from Serenade No. 1 in D Major by a then-young Johannes Brahms. Next, Adelaide Eisteddfod prize-winner Daniel Chieng will dazzle with Franz Liszt’s virtuosic Piano Concerto No. 2 in A Major. Finally, Brahms’s Symphony No. 2 in D Major unfolds like a beautiful sunny vista, with its joyful and exuberant themes capturing the summer countryside in southern Austria, where the work was composed. Tickets are available online until 1 hour before the session time. Please have your tickets ready to present at the door, either printed or on your smartphone. All advertised prices are inclusive of a 50c per ticket booking fee, which will be added to your order during check-out, and include a complimentary printed or digital program.
